Tiffin University (13-15, 7-3 GLIAC) posted a big doubleheader sweep of Saginaw Valley State on the road, winning the opener 4-1 behind a tough performance from Amber Young and then riding timely hitting and a trio of pitching arms to a 6-2 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, Young went 8 innings and fanned 5 while allowing no earned runs and scattering 10 hits. The two teams were locked in a 0-0 tie after 7 innings, but TU exploded for four runs in the top of the 8th, highlighted by Kasie Sepeda's big 3-run bomb. Sepeda finished with 2 hits including a double and home run for 3 RBI.
In the bottom of the 8th, the Cardinals had the bases loaded with 2 outs but Young pitched out of it, recording the final out on a pop foul to the catcher.
In game two, Sarah Brown got the win with an inning of relief work. She took over for Kelsey Yaratch, who went 4.2 innings and allowed just one earned run. After Brown came in, the Dragons picked up 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth to break the game open. They added another run in the sixth, while Young returned to pitch the final 1.1 innings to close it out.
Sepeda added 2 doubles to her performance, while Madison Yanek had 2 hits for 2 RBI. Payton Denman had 2 hits with a double for 2 RBI while Jena King and Caitlin Houk also had 2 hits. Katie Toomey added an RBI.
