TIFFIN, Ohio - Seniors KC Weber and Ryan Williams had home runs as the Tiffin University baseball team (18-26, 12-16 GLIAC) lost twice to Walsh (20-17, 14-13 GLIAC) 1-0 and 6-5, Saturday afternoon at Heminger Field.
Game one was a pitching duel with just three hits on the day. In the first inning, Tiffin had bases loaded with no outs. Walsh got a double play and a ground out to escape.
In the sixth inning the Cavaliers took advantage of an error to score a run. In the bottom of the sixth, the Dragons threatened with two on and one out. WU turned a double play to end the threat.
For Tiffin, senior Nick Rodesky (4-2) gave up one hit, one run, which was unearned, walked two and struck out five in seven innings.
For Walsh, Dave Roper (2-2) gave up two hits, walked four and struck out two in six innings. Neal Edwards (7) went 1-2-3 in the seventh for the save.
In the nightcap, Walsh scored three runs in the top of the first. In the bottom half, Weber hit a shot off the scoreboard to make it 3-1. The Cavaliers scored two in the third to make it 5-1.
In the fourth inning, Williams hit a ball off the wall of the field house to make it 5-2. In the seventh inning, The Dragons loaded the bases with two outs. Senior Tayler Glass singled up the middle to score two runs and move Weber to third. Williams ripped a double down the left field line. Weber scored and Glass was thrown out at the plate.
WU scored a run in the top of the eighth. In the bottom half, senior Nick Calandra got hit by a pitch. A fielder's choice, fly out and strike out ended the game.
For Tiffin, Williams had three hits and drove in two runs while Glass had two hits and drove in two runs. Senior David Blalock (1-5) gave up three hits, one run, walked two and struck out five in four innings.
For Walsh, Andrew Bonnette and Mike Lee had two hits. Edwards (1-2) gave up four hits, three runs (none earned) and struck out two in three innings.
Tiffin closes the home season Wednesday, May 1 with Wayne State. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. Livestats will be available at http://dragonweb.tiffin.edu/livestats/xlive.htm
