Tiffin University (17-23, 11-13 GLIAC) dropped a pair of wild extra inning games at Northwood, falling in the opener 6-5 in 8 innings and then faltering in the nightcap 4-3 in 9 innings.
In the opener, Nick Rodesky tossed 6.1 innings, fanning 8 and allowing 5 earned runs. The Dragons led 5-1 heading into the 7th inning, but Northwood loaded the bases on a single and two walks, rallying for 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it and send it to extra innings. Greg Sombati came on in relief of Rodesky and eventually took the loss, allowing an unearned run in two-thirds of an inning of work.
In the eighth innings, two errors led to a runner reaching third for the Timberwolves to start the inning. The Dragons fell on a single after two intentional walks loaded the bases.
Nick Calandra drove in 3 runs with a double, while Tayler Glass and Roger Christensen also had 2 hits apiece. Ryan Williams also drove in 2 runs.
In game two, David Blalock took the loss in relief, pitching the final 2 innings after taking over for Eric Klepper. Klepper pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. The Dragons managed just 3 hits in the game.
TU opened with 2 runs in the second inning despite not getting a hit. Three hit batters, a wild pitch, and an error gave TU the early lead.
Northwood responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning, but an unearned run allowed TU to tie the game.
The Dragons had a shot in the eighth inning as they placed runners on second and third with 2 outs but couldn't get them home. In the ninth inning, the Timberwolves led off with a double, reached third on a wild pitch, and then won the game on the subsequent single.
