TIFFIN, Ohio - Senior Brent Faber struck out nine as the Tiffin University baseball team (17-17, 11-8 GLIAC) beat Lake Erie (8-22, 5-12 GLIAC) 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Heminger Field.
In the fifth inning, Lake Erie used three hits and a wild pitch to score the first run of the contest. In the bottom half, sophomore Nick Hueneburg doubled down the left field line and moved to third on a single by sophomore Nick Calandra. Senior Colin Sallee singled to left field to score Hueneburg.
In the sixth inning with two outs, senior Ryan Williams laced a double down the left field line. Following a balk, senior Ryan Locke singled to right center to score Williams. In the ninth, the Storm threatened with bases loaded. The Dragons got a fly out to right field to end the game.
For Tiffin, Williams led the attack with two hits. Faber (3-2) gave up six hits, one run, walked three and struck out nine in seven innings. Sophomore Greg Sombati (2) gave up two hits and walked one in two innings..
For Lake Erie, Aaron Lindgren had two hits. Logan Nordquist (0-7) gave up six hits, two runs and struck out four in six innings.
Tiffin hits the road, Tuesday, April 16, taking on Wayne State in a doubleheader. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
