TIFFIN, Ohio - Senior Ryan Williams had three hits and scored three runs as the Tiffin University baseball team (16-17, 10-8 GLIAC) split with Lake Erie (8-21, 5-11 GLIAC), Saturday afternoon at Heminger Field. TU won the first game 4-3 and lost the second 8-3.
In the opener, Tiffin scored a run in the fourth for the early lead. In the fifth inning, freshman Cole McCurry was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice fly. Following a fly out, Williams jacked the ball over the right field fence to make it 3-0.
In the sixth inning, Lake Erie got a two-run homer from Aaron Lindgren. The Storm would score one more run in the inning to tie the game at 3-3. In the bottom half of the inning, senior Colin Sallee hit a solo shot to center field. The Dragons got LEC to go 1-2-3 in the seventh.
For Tiffin, Williams had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two runs while senior Tayler Glass had two hits. Senior Nick Rodesky (4-1) gave up seven hits, three runs and struck out seven in six innings. Sophomore Greg Sombati (1) went 1-2-3 in the seventh for the save.
For Lake Erie, Lou Peterlin had two hits. Heath Kelley (0-1) gave up two hits and one run in one inning.
In the nightcap, Lake Erie scored in the first inning. In the second, Williams singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a wild pitch. During the at bat of junior Mario Rodriguez, Williams stole home to tie the game. The Storm scored four runs over the next two innings to seal the game.
For Tiffin, senior Eric Klepper (2-4) gave up six hits, five runs, four earned, walked one and struck out three in four innings.
For Lake Erie, Lindgren had three hits, scored two runs and drove in five runs. Brad Raley (1-3) gave up four hits, three runs, two earned, walked two and struck out eight in 6.3 innings.
