TIFFIN, Ohio - Freshman Cassie Brown and junior Caitlin Houk had four hits each and sophomore Madison Yanek had a grand slam home run as the Tiffin University softball team (8-12, 2-0 GLIAC) swept Hillsdale (2-9, 1-3 GLIAC) 8-0 and 5-1, Friday afternoon at Paradiso Fields.
In game one, Brown drew a walk and scored on a double by Houk. In the third inning, Yanek crushed a grand slam over the centerfield fence. Tiffin would score seven in that inning to cruise to victory.
For Tiffin, Houk had two hits and Yanek drove in four runs. Senior Amber Young (2-2) threw a three hitter with seven strikeouts.
For Hillsdale, Sarah Grunert (0-3) gave up nine hits, eight runs, walked two and struck out three.
In the night cap, it was scoreless for four innings. In the fifth, freshman Jena King singled and moved to second on a bunt. Brown ripped a double down the left field line to score King. Brown would score on a single by Houk.
In the sixth inning, junior Emily Shaw singled. Freshman Kimberlee Hetrick pinch hit and hit a shot over the center field fence. The Dragons would score in the seventh.
For Tiffin, Brown had three hits, one of four Dragons with multiple hits. Freshman Sarah Brown (3-2) gave up three hits, one run, walked one and struck out eight.
For Hillsdale, Danielle Garceau had two hits. Katie Ardrey (1-5) gave up 10 hits, four runs, walked one and struck out one in 5.3 innings.
Tiffin takes on Findlay in a doubleheader, Saturday, March 30 at Paradiso Fields. The games are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
