COLUMBUS, Ohio - There were a total of 27 hits as the Tiffin University baseball team (8-12, 2-3 GLIAC) lost 12-11 to Ohio Dominican (8-11, 4-1 GLIAC), Sunday afternoon at Panther Valley.
After six innings, the score stood tied at 9-9. In the seventh inning, sophomore Nick Calandra singled and moved to third when Ohio Dominican misplayed a sacrifice bunt. Another Panther miscue allowed him to score to make it 10-9.
In the eighth inning, ODU scored two runs to put the pressure on the Dragons heading into the ninth. Freshman Cole McCurry reached on an error and stole second. Following a ground out, sophomore Nick Hueneburg singled to score McCurry.
In the bottom of the ninth, Ohio Dominican threatened with a runner on and one out. TU threw the runner out and got a ground out to end the threat. The Panthers hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the tenth to win.
For Tiffin, senior KC Weber had three hits while senior Ryan Locke and freshman Jordan Widman had two hits and two RBI's each. Sophomore Greg Sombati (1-2) gave up five hits, three runs, one earned and struck out six in 4.3 innings.
For Ohio Dominican, Collin Parcher had three hits, scored two runs and drove in three while Kevin Lydic had two hits and drove in two runs. Vince Bartolone (1-2) gave up two hits, one run which was unearned and struck out three in 2.3 innings.
Tiffin hits the road, Wednesday, March 27 against Findlay. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
