Tiffin University (3-6) could not get runners home in two losses at the Southern Indiana Tournament, falling to Southern Indiana 6-4 and Kentucky Wesleyan 8-1.
In the opener, Kelsey Yaratch took the loss, pitching just 1.1 innings and allowing 2 earned runs. The Dragons held a 4-0 lead to start the game but 5 runs by USI in the second inning (3 unearned) put the Eagles ahead to stay.
The Dragons had plenty of chances to score, though, stranding 9 runners on base including 7 over the last four innings. The Dragons also had the bases loaded with two outs in the 7th inning but could not get them home.
Caitlin Houk had 3 hits, while Madison Yanek also had 2 hits with a double and an RBI. Payton Denman also had a double while Brianna Gamm had 2 RBI.
Against Kentucky Wesleyan, the Dragons had 10 hits but scored just once after the Panthers took a 6-0 lead. Kaitlin Gruenewald was the losing pitcher, tossing 4.2 innings and allowing 6 earned runs.
Gamm had 3 hits while Cassandra Brown added a double.
