CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Senior Val Helldobler broke the career record for at bats as the Tiffin University baseball team (25-26) saw its season come to an end, 6-0 to No. 9 Grand Valley State (39-13) at the GLIAC Tournament, Thursday afternoon at V.A. Memorial Stadium.
Grand Valley State scored a run in the top of the first to take the early lead. In the bottom of the first, junior Kyle Robinson and senior Pat Curtin delivered singles to put two on. The Lakers turned two fielder's choices to end the threat.
GVSU scored five runs in the third and fourth inning to secure the game. The Dragons were held to just two hits after the first inning.
For Tiffin, Helldobler finished with 646 at bats, breaking the record of 645 held by Ty Blake (2007-10). Junior Eric Klepper (3-5) gave up five hits, five runs, four of them earned, walked two and struck out one in 3.3 innings.
For Grand Valley, Mike Nadratowski went 3-for-5 while Kevin Zak had two hits and drove in two runs. Ryan Garman (9-2) gave up four hits, walked four and struck out six.
