A wild day of softball at Paradiso fields led to a split for Tiffin University's softball team, as they won the opener 7-4 over Wayne State but could not hold on to sizable leads in game two, losing 15-14 in the Warriors' last at-bats.
In the opener, Abbey Cooksey got the win, going the distance and allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs. The Dragons' offense gave Cooksey a 7-1 lead heading into the seventh inning, when the Warriors rallied for three runs before coming up just short.
Amanda Temple had 3 hits with a double and triple for 3 RBI, while Stephanie Bobotas (2 RBI), Caitlin Houk, and Chelsea Von Driska also had two hits apiece. Lauren Mazzuca added a triple.
In game two, the Dragons jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the third inning but allowed WSU 7 runs in the bottom of the frame.
TU kept up the offensive attack, however, scoring five more runs over the next three innings to take a 14-7 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Warriors bounced back for three runs to make it 14-10 entering the bottom of the 7th inning.
With one out, Wayne State rallied for five runs in the inning, ending the comeback with a two-run walk-off home run to spoil TU's hopes for a sweep on the day.
Cooksey took the loss in relief of starter Amber Young. Cooksey allowed 7 earned runs on 11 hits over 4 innings of work. Young went 2.1 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 3 hits.
Meagan Baird had 3 hits with a double for 6 RBI, while Von Driska also had 2 hits with a home run for 3 RBI. Jessie Creakbaum also added a double.
