Tiffin University (17-16, 8-8 GLIAC) jumped out to a 6-2 lead and then held on as Wayne State tried to win their second game of the day in the seventh inning, narrowly beating the Warriors 6-5 in game two. TU dropped the opener 4-2.
Payton Denman drove in 2 runs while Jessie Creakbaum had two hits as the Dragons held a 6-2 lead in the 5th inning. Amber Young pitched the first four innings, allowing one earned run on four hits.
Abbey Cooksey came in to pitch the final three innings and held a 6-3 lead as Wayne State went to the plate for their last at-bats. The Warriors took advantage of TU errors (3 in game two) to plate two runs and put the tying run on third base with just one out.
Cooksey managed to force a groundout to herself and second baseman Lauren Mazzuca to escape the jam and pick up her second save of the season. Young picked up the victory to improve to 7-9.
In game one the Dragons were not nearly as fortunate. The Dragons held a 2-1 lead entering the seventh inning. After two quick outs, the Warriors got two singles, placing runners on first and third. Cooksey then fanned the next hitter for what should have been the final out, but a passed ball allowed the Warriors to tie the score.
The Warriors' Stephanie Foreman then drilled a double for two more unearned runs, as WSU took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the 7th. Two TU ground outs and a foul out gave the win to the Warriors.
Cooksey took the loss, falling to 10-7. She allowed just one earned run over 7 innings and 115 pitches.
