TIFFIN, Ohio - Senior Pat Curtin and junior Kyle Robinson had four hits each as the Tiffin University baseball team (10-17, 5-9 GLIAC) split a doubleheader with Lake Erie (12-13, 8-4 GLIAC) Friday afternoon at Heminger Field. TU won the opener 4-3 in 11 innings while LEC took the nightcap 7-6 in eight innings.
In game one, Lake Erie used two hits to score two runs in the first inning. In the third inning, junior KC Weber singled and stole second. Junior Ryan Williams doubled down the left field line to score Weber. Williams was out trying to stretch it to a triple.
Robinson walked, stole second and moved to third on a single by junior Roger Christensen. Curtin ripped a single through the right side to score Robinson. The Storm took the lead back scoring one run in the fifth inning. In the bottom half of the inning, the Dragons came back with a run to make it 3-3.
In the 11th inning, with one out, Christensen walked and stole second. Curtin singled up the middle and the centerfielder booted the ball. That boot allowed Christensen to score the winning run.
For Tiffin, Robinson was 2-for-4 and scored two runs while Curtin and Williams had two hits each. Curtin (2-1) gave up two hits, walked one and struck out four in five innings.
For Lake Erie, Brayan Cacique had two hits and Pat Kilway drove in two runs. Heath Kelley (1-1) gave up one hit, one run which was unearned and walked one in 1/3rd of an inning.
In the night cap, TU struck early. In the first inning, Robinson singled and stole second followed by a walk to Christensen. Curtin singled, then Robinson scored and Christensen and Curtin each moved a base on an error.
Senior Jordan Chiero was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Senior Val Helldobler hit a fielder's choice that forced Chiero out and scored Christensen. Junior Ryan Locke singled to score Curtin and make it 3-0.
For Tiffin, Curtin, Chiero and Robinson had two hits each. Freshman Lucas Junger (0-1) gave up three hits and one run in 1/3rd of an inning.
For Lake Erie, Matt Toth and Dylan Yankle had three hits each to lead the attack. Mike Backes (1-2) gave up three hits in 2.1 innings. Kelley got TU to go 1-2-3 in the eighth for his second save of the season.
