Tiffin University racked up 12 hits in taking the nightcap against Findlay 11-3 in 6 innings but could not hold on to a late lead in falling in the opener 7-6 in 8 innings. The Dragons finish the regular season 26-23, 17-15 GLIAC and prepare for the GLIAC tournament this weekend at Findlay.
In the victory, TU scored 6 runs in the fifth innings and four more in the 6th to put the Oilers away. Payton Denman had two hits with a double for 4 RBI, while Meagan Baird had 2 hits with a double and Amanda Temple had 2 hits. Lesy Herbert also had a double.
Torrie Terry got the win, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. Amber Young also tossed one pitch to record the final out of the sixth inning.
Young was not as successful in the opener, coming on in relief of Abbey Cooksey after Cooksey went 6.2 innings. Young took the loss, tossing two-thirds of an inning and walking two. Coming in with the potential tying run on third base, a wild pitch with two outs allowed the Oilers to send the game into extra innings. UF then won the game on a home run in the 8th inning.
TU had led 6-4 in the game but gave up solo runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to lose.
Denman had a strong game, getting a double and home run, while Caitlin Houk also had a double and home run. Jessie Creakbaum had two hits for 2 RBI, while Emily Shaw also had 2 hits.
