Tiffin University (15-14, 6-6 GLIAC) used more solid pitching and a combined 25 hits in sweeping Lake Erie 4-1 and 9-2 on April 1, completing a four-game weekend sweep of the Storm.
In the opener, Abbey Cooksey pitched another solid game in improving to 9-6 overall. She scattered 4 hits and allowed just one earned run over 7 innings while fanning 8 and walking just one.
TU opened in the bottom of the first by scoring three runs. Amanda Temple was one of four Dragons players with multiple hits, getting two hits for 2 RBI, while Chelsea Von Driska also had 2 hits with a double. Lesy Herbert and Stephanie Bobotas also had 2 hits. Lauren Mazzuca also had a double.
In the nightcap, Amber Young improved to 6-8 with a 7 inning two-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 0 walks. Her only mistake was a two-run home run allowed in the bottom of the first inning.
TU, meanwhile, turned up the offense, banging out 15 hits and scoring three runs in both the third and sixth innings. Four more Dragons had multiple hits, with Bobotas collecting 4 hits for 2 RBI along with a double, while Torrie Terry and Caitlin Houk also had 2 htis and 2 RBIs apiece. Emily Shaw had 2 hits, and Mazzuca added another double.
TU also benefited from 7 Lake Erie errors on the day leading to 5 unearned runs.
