Tiffin University's Abbey Cooksey had a nice day, picking up a win and a save as TU swept Lake Erie 1-0 and 7-1 in the opening games of their weekend series at Paradiso Fields.
In the opener, Cooksey started and went the distance, firing a one-hitter with 5 strikeouts and just one walk over 7 innings.
TU waited until their final at-bat to pull out the win, as Torrie Terry picked up her second hit of the day with two outs to drive in Katie Toomey from second base.
In the nightcap, Amber Young started and went 4 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 0 earned runs with 6 strikeouts before Cooksey came in with the bases loaded and no one out in the fifth.
Cooksey escaped the jam without giving up any runs and pitched the final 3 innings allowing just 2 hits and fanning 5 batters for the save.
TU, meanwhile, picked up 6 runs in the fourth inning to give their pitchers a nice cushion. They were also helped by two Storm errors leading to two unearned runs in the frame. Amanda Temple had a triple, while Lauren Mazzuca and Lesy Herbert added doubles.
