Tiffin University's bats finally came to life in the nightcap of their doubleheader against Hillsdale, as Lesy Herbert drilled a grand slam to lead the attack in a 11-4 win against the Chargers. TU dropped the opener 4-1.
The Dragons (11-12, 2-4 GLIAC) trailed 1-0 entering the fourth inning when Katie Toomey got a two-out hit to tie the game at 1-1. The Dragons proceeded to load the bases and Herbert followed with an opposite field home run as TU scored 5 runs with two outs and take a 5-1 lead.
The Dragons continued the attack over the next three innings, adding 6 more runs. Amanda Temple had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI, while Caitlin Houk also had 2 hits.
Abbey Cooksey improved to 7-5 with the win, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits over 123 pitches.
In the opener, TU managed just 4 hits, all singles, as Amber Young took the loss while allowing 4 earned runs and fanning 7 over 7 innings. The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when the Chargers picked up 3 runs.
