COLUMBUS, Ohio - Junior Eric Klepper and senior Jordan Liette gave up just seven hits and one run in 12 innings as the Tiffin University baseball team (7-8, 2-0 GLIAC) swept Ohio Dominican (8-7, 0-2 GLIAC) 5-0 and 10-2, Saturday afternoon at Panther Valley. The win in game one was the 600th in TU history.
In the first inning of game one, with two outs, singles from seniors Pat Curtin and Jordan Chiero put runners on the corners. Senior Val Helldobler singled through the right side to score Curtin and move Chiero to second.
Junior Ryan Locke smashed a double to right field to score Chiero, making it 2-0. The Dragons would score three more runs over the next two innings to seal the deal.
For Tiffin, Klepper (1-1) mowed down the Panthers like an overgrown lawn, tossing a no-hitter for the first three innings. He would surrender just two hits, while walking one with five strikeouts in a seven-inning complete game win. Curtin, Chiero, Helldobler and junior KC Weber had two hits each.
For Ohio Dominican, Vince Bartolone and Anthony Raschilla had one hit a piece. Alex Borgan (2-1) gave up 10 hits, five runs, two of them earned, walked one and struck out three in five innings.
In the nightcap, TU struck once again it its first at-bats. Junior Kyle Robinson doubled and moved to second on a single by junior Roger Christensen. Curtin lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Robinson.
Christensen moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt and scored on a single by Chiero. Tiffin broke the game open in the third, using six hits and two errors to score six runs.
For Tiffin, Chiero had a huge game, going 4-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in three runs. Freshman Derek Koch and Locke had two hits. Liette (2-1) gave up five hits, one run, walked one and struck out seven in five innings.
For Ohio Dominican, Sean Blackburn (1-2) gave up seven hits, six run, five of them earned, walked two and struck out one in 2.1 innings.
Tiffin closes the series against Ohio Dominican, Sunday, March 25 with a doubleheader. The games are scheduled to start at noon.
