A close game at halftime fell apart completely in the second half, as Wayne State defeated Tiffin University (2-2, 0-1 GLIAC) 84-57 in the GLIAC opener at the Gillmor Center.
Despite shooting just 28 percent in the first half, the Dragons used strong rebounding and numerous trips to the free throw line to trail just 32-31 at the half.
That all vanished after the intermission, as the Warriors outscored TU 52-26 in the final 20 minutes. Tiffin kept the game close for the first 9:00 minutes of the second half, three times cutting the deficit to just 3 points, but Wayne State outscored TU 35-15 over the final 11:37 of the contest.
The Warriors dominated in the paint, outscoring TU 30-6 while outrebounding TU 25-12 in the second half. Tiffin also had 19 turnovers which the Warriors converted for 24 points.
Tiffin never could get on track shooting from the field, finishing with just 29 percent, including 18 percent from three point. Thanks to their strong post game, the Warriors improved their field goal percentage from 40 percent in the first half to 52 percent in the second half.
Jessica Harris had 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead TU but hit just 3 of 12 from the floor. Karli Mast also had 12 points. Jessica Farr had 9, Jordan Fraley had 7 points with 5 boards, and Jillian Adams had 7 points. Steph Kelly also had 5 rebounds to go along with 4 assists.
