TIFFIN, Ohio - Junior Joe Graessle went over the 1,000 point career mark as the Tiffin University men's basketball team (2-3, 0-1 GLIAC) lost 83-71 to Wayne State (2-1, 1-0 GLIAC), Thursday night at the Gillmor Center.
For the first nine minutes the teams battled on even terms. Graessle tipped in a rebound to make it 14-10, Wayne State with 11:34 to go.
The Warriors went on an 11-3 run to lead 25-13 at the 8:08 mark. Freshman Eric Roby scored five straight points to make it 25-18 with 6:19 to go. WSU closed the half on a 13-7 run to lead by 13.
Wayne State continued to take it to Tiffin, leading by 11 with 15:53 left. The Dragons began to chip away at the lead. Sophomore Michael Bouley drove the lane, scored and converted the charity toss.
That play finished off a 12-4 run by TU to make it 47-43 at the 12:51 mark. The Warriors pushed it to eight before senior Cody Dennison drained a bomb to cut it to five. WSU scored two quick baskets and Tiffin could not get closer than seven the rest of the way.
For Tiffin, Graessle had 23 points, five assists and four steals. He has now scored 1,013 career points, the 29th Dragon to hit this mark. Roby finished with 17 points while Dennison had 12 points and five assists.
For Wayne State, Chene Phillips had 29 points while Gerald Williams-Taylor scored 14.
Tiffin remains home, Saturday, Dec. 1 when they take on Saginaw Valley State. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. Live Stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/tiffin/
