Amber Young starts off 3-0, gets two strikes and a popout. Hopefully the jitters went to the wayside for Young.

Foul ball next batter, four straight strikes. But a double just out of the reach of Stephanie Bobatas and a hits batter, Hillsdale has two on with one out. Sacrifice bunt? But it is the cleanup hitter...

And a walk loads the bases. Hillsdale doing a good job not chasing.

And Smith with the K looking. Bases still loaded, but two outs.

The Chargers doing a good job battling. Kate Hopp is up, and she is down 1-2 but fouled three straight off and taking some close pitches. Seven pitch at-bat. 2-2.

And Young wins the battle with a fly out. The first time in the field can be nerve-wracking for the one seed, and Tiffin was able to keep the game scoreless.

After the first out, a walk after being down 0-2 for Bobatas and a dink single for Amanda Temple puts runners on first and second with one out.

Tiffany Smith strikes out on three straight pitches. Mindy Meredith is the lucky two-out hitter.

And a swinging strike out ends a busy first, but no score for either team.

A grounder to third, a lineout to short and a strikeout and Young sails in the second. It might just have been jitters (but she was facing the body of the line-up). I feel a solo home run difference game coming up...

Both teams go 1-2-3 in the second. Both pitchers are settling in.

Taylor Schulty leads off with a single to begin the top of the third for Hillsdale. She moves over to second on a sacrifice hit.

A strikeout gets two down, but a walk puts two on with two out, and Young has a 2-1 count on Laura Homan.

An infield hit by Emily Shaw and a stolen base put a runner in scoring position, but two infield flies and there is two outs. Hillsdale gets out of the inning on a checked-swing ground ball to third. 0 runs, 2 hits and no errors through three.

And Chargers get a runner to second, but Young held. Still 0-0 heading to the bottom of the 4th.

Meagan Baird with her fourth home run of the year! Deep to right center and Tiffin takes a 1-0 lead in the fourth!

Designated player Mindy Meredith comes in for Young, She gets a quick out, but Miriam McKay battles to a full count. But she swings and misses for strike three. Meredith probably came in because Young had problems with the top of the Hillsdale order.

A flyout sends the game to the bottom of the fifth. 1-0 Tiffin.

and Melodi Murrieta goes deep to left off of the soccer bleachers for a pivotal second run. Dragons lead 2-0. For all the 1-8 games I have witnessed or watched at tournaments, the one seed very rarely wins comfortable. Another shallow fly, this time to short right, scores Bobaotas and Tiffin goes out to a 3-0 lead. Bobotas steal set up the run. Good heads up base running by Amanda Temple, who moves to second on the throw.

Not much to say. Baird hit that home run and completely took the wind out of Hillsdale's sails. It was a matter of early chances falling by the wayside for Hillsdale. Through two innings, relief pitcher Meredith has only allowed one walk. But more important, she has stymied the top of the lineup, which were getting on base against Young. Hillsdale goes 8-9-1 in the top of the seventh. Meanwhile, in the bottom of the sixth, Tiffin has pinch runner Torrie Terry at second with two down.

Becca Strother is pinch-hitting for Hillsdale and has battled to a full count. But Meredith blows the ball by Strother for strike three and one down. But Meredith hits the next batter.

A fielder's choice grounder to short and a pop out ends the game. Tiffin wins!
