$website.include("options")

Tiffin University, welcome to first place in the GLIAC.

The Dragons (33-12, 24-6 GLIAC) dominated play for a second straight day against Ashland, winning two more games on Saturday to make it four consecutive wins against the Eagles on the weekend. TU came from behind to win 5-2 in the opener, and then bludgeoned the Eagles 16-4 in the finale.

The Dragons vaulted from third place to sole possession of first place with the four-game sweep coupled with Grand Valley dropping four games to Saginaw Valley State this weekend.

In the opener, Ashland's Emlyn Knerem held a 1-0 lead and looked strong entering the fifth inning, having allowed only one hit and not allowing any ball out of the infield.

Then came the fifth inning.

Mindy Meredith took the first pitch she saw from Knerem and crushed a mammoth home run over the flag pole in left field, tying the score and turning the tide for the Dragons. TU tacked on four more runs in the fifth to take a commanding 5-1 lead.

Meredith picked up the win as well, improving to 13-3 after 7 innings of 4-hit work. She allowed 2 earned runs and fanned 7.

Amanda Temple had 2 RBI to break the game open in the fifth, while Caitlin Houk also had a double and a single.

In game two, Amber Young got the win to improve to 10-4. She tossed four innings while Meredith came back in to pitch the final three innings for her fourth save.

Pitching took a backseat to the offense in game two, as the Dragons banged out 16 hits while scoring 8 runs in the fourth inning and 5 runs in the 7th to put the game away in resounding fashion.

Melodi Murrieta had 3 hits for 4 RBIs with 2 doubles to lead the attack on Senior Day, while fellow senior Tiffany Smith had 2 hits for 2 RBIs. Amanda Temple had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBIs, Meredith added 3 more hits for 2 RBIs, Lesy Herbert had 2 hits with a double, and Emily Shaw also had 2 hits. Meagan Baird also drove in two runs with her lone hit.

TU now finishes their regular season with two games against Findlay on May 1 starting at noon.
