Tiffany Smith, welcome to the Tiffin University record books.
The Dragons' first baseman shattered the TU career home run record in dramatic fashion with a doubleheader to remember as TU (ranked 34th in the nation and 5th in the Midwest Region) swept Lake Erie 2-0 and 8-5 to improve to 18-7, 9-1 in the GLIAC.
In the opener, Lake Erie carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning of a scoreless game. After Amanda Temple broke up the no-hit bid with a double, Smith tied Lauren Williams' career home run record (26) with a massive 2-run home run to give TU the win.
Abbey Cooksey then shut down the Storm in the 7th inning to pick up the win, allowing just 5 hits in the complete game shutout.
In game two, the Dragons carried a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning but the Storm responded with 3 runs to take a 4-3 lead.
No problem.
Smith hit another solo bomb in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at 4-4 and set the new record with her 27th career bomb.
Smith wasn't finished, either, as the Dragons took the lead for good with four more runs in the 6th inning, as Smith jacked another home run, this time a two-run shot to lead the attack.
Overall, Smith hit three bombs and had 6 RBIs in the twinbill. Lesy Herbert also had two hits, while Temple added another double. Meagan Baird also hit a double.
Mindy Meredith picked up her second win of the weekend, this time with 2.2 innings of relief in which she allowed one earned run. Amber Young started the game, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing 4 earned runs.
