TIFFIN, Ohio - The Dragons were able to rough up Lakers ace Kyle Schepel for five runs in four innings, more than doubling his ERA, but the GVSU bats were alive all day as Tiffin (8-25, 5-14) fell to Grand Valley (30-3, 20-1) 18-5 in game one and 14-1 in game two at Heminger Field.
Michael Dushane tallied five hits and a pair of runs scored. Val Helldobler went 2-for-6 with an RBI and run scored while Colin Lowe added a two-RBI single in five at-bats for the Dragons.

Kyle Schepel improved to 7-0 on the year, but he allowed five runs (entered the game with three in 42 innings pitched) on nine hits and a pair of walks in four innings. His ERA more than doubled from 0.64 to 1.56. Cody Westerhuis improved to 2-0, allowing one run on five hits in four innings in game two.
Grand Valley jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two thanks to a triple by Garrett Yatch in the first and then two inning-opening singles, a wild pitch, a passed ball, an RBI single by Yatch and a pair of Dragon errors. The Lakers added another three-spot in the top of the third, but Tiffin roughed up Schepel in the bottom of the third. With one out, Dushane and Cory Osborne both singled to put a pair of runners on. Schepel got a flyout and looked like he might get out of the inning unscathed. However, Jordan Chiero walked to load the bases and Lowe singled to score a pair and put runners on the corner. Cory Hornyak added an RBI infield hit and a walk loaded the bases, but Ryan Williams grounded out to end the Tiffin threat.
The visitors got all three runs and one additional run back in the top of the fourth, but Tiffin continued roughing up Schepel in the bottom of the inning. Dushane hit a one-out double and Val Helldobler added a two-out double to cut the deficit to 11-4. Chiero added another double to score another run to cut the deficit to five after four.
Grand Valley State added four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth for the final 18-5 win.
In game two, the visitors scored seven in the first and never looked back. With runners on the corner and one down, Anderson singled to score a run and keep runners at the corner. An RBI single by Brugnoni, a costly three-base throwing error, a two-RBI double by Tyler Laupp, a run-scoring groundout and a Cory Phillips single in his second at-bat of the inning put GVSU up 7-0. The Lakers added four in the top of the third thanks to a base clearing, three RBI double by Paul Young.
Tiffin scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, Chris Hall walked and Williams singled to put two men on. Zach McCutcheon added an RBI single to bring Tiffin within 11.
Grand Valley State scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the final 14-1 win.
Tiffin returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Ashland for a trio of conference games. The first game will be a resumption of a postponed game earlier this month with the Eagles leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second.
