Tiffin University (27-10, 18-4 GLIAC) overcame 5 errors and numerous deficits by turning up the offense, scoring a total of 19 runs in the doubleheader sweep of Hillsdale. TU won the opener 10-7 and took the nightcap 9-3, giving them an impressive 5-1 record over the three-day road trip to Grand Valley State, Ferris State, and Hillsdale.
In the opener, Abbey Cooksey got the win despite suffering through a tough first inning that saw the Chargers score 5 runs. Hillsdale led 6-1 after two innings and still held a 7-4 lead after four innings, but TU finally went ahead for good with a big 6-run fifth inning.
Cooksey pitched the first 4.2 innings with 8 strikeouts, allowing 4 earned runs. Mindy Meredith came in to finish the final 2.1 innings, allowing no hits or runs.
Amanda Temple had 3 hits with a double for 4 RBIs while Emily Shaw also had a nice game with 3 hits and a double for 2 RBIs. TU had a total of 12 hits.
In game two, Amber Young got the win, allowing just 2 hits and 2 earned runs in 7 innings with 10 punchouts.
The Chargers again led early, scoring three runs in the first inning but plating nothing else over the final six frames. TU, meanwhile, scored runs in every inning but the fourth inning.
The Dragons, who had 12 more hits in the second game, were led by Temple's 3 hits with another double for 2 RBIs, while Jessie Creakbaum had 3 hits with 2 big home runs for 4 RBIs. Caitlin Houk had 2 hits.
