HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Dragons started the game off unconscious from behind the arc, but the Chargers picked up the defensive intensity as Tiffin (13-10, 7-9) fell to Hillsdale (15-7, 9-7) 85-70 Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest in Hillsdale, Mich.
Mandy Jaeb poured in 18 points while Karli Mast added 16 point, including a 4-7 mark from beyond the arc. Jessica Harris added 14 points and a team-high eight boards.
Chelsea Harrison led all scorers for Hillsdale with 23 points, including an 8-10 night from the charity stripe. Lea Jones and Laura Barczak added 17 and 12, respectively, with eight rebounds each.
After the teams traded an opening basket, Jessica Harris added a jumper and Jaeb nailed a mid-range and three to give Tiffin the early 9-2 lead. Hillsdale knotted the score at 13, but another Harris jumper and back-to-back bombs from Jennifer Johnston and Mast around a Hillsdale bucket put Tiffin up 21-15 with 12 minutes left in the half. The home team added another score, but a Mast three and another jumper that was nothing but net pushed the lead to double digits, 29-19, with 10 minutes left to play. However, Hillsdale ended the half on a 23-11 run thanks to seven threes by five different Chargers.
Hillsdale came out and hit both baskets to begin the second stanza, but a three-point play the hard way cut the deficit to 46-43. It never got any closer for the Dragons. Elizabeth Brannick started a 6-0 run with a lay-up, Katie Bildner hit a jumper and Harrison added a pair from the line to push the Charger lead to 52-43 just five minutes into the half.
