Good teams find ways to win ball games even when things don't go their way.
Tiffin University's women's basketball team did just that, overcoming a poor shooting night by burying Clarion at the free throw line and in the rebounding column in a 65-51 victory on the road.
The Dragons shot just 32 percent from the field, including a rough 3-for-25 from three point land. The poor shooting kept the game close for most of the 40 minutes, but the Dragons used a 6-2 run near the end of the first half to post a 26-19 halftime lead.
Mandy Jaeb carried the team throughout the first half, totaling 12 points while the Dragons hit 9 of 10 free throws and outrebounded Clarion 25-16.
Clarion kept things close in the second half, but again the Dragons never wavered at the charity stripe, getting tougher as the game wore on and turning up the defensive intensity to register a 17-6 scoring edge over the final 6:00.
Jaeb finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds, while Karli Mast also reached double figures with 14 points. Holly Focke had 8 points, Amanda Baute had 5 points and 8 rebounds, and Jessica Harris also had 6 points and 8 rebounds.
Overall TU hit on 22 of 28 free throws and held a 44-30 rebounding advantage.
TU now takes on Malone University on the road Nov. 22 at 5:30 pm.
