DETROIT - The Dragons fought valiantly with the Warriors early on, but a big first half run helped catapult Wayne State (12-3, 8-1) to a 102-72 victory over Tiffin (3-14, 1-9) Thursday night in Detroit.

Tiffin was led by junior Travis Spahr, who hit 8-of-11 from the field for 17 points. He also grabbed a team-high nine boards. Freshman Devin Russell had a career-high 10 points in 19 minutes of action.

Mike Hollingsworth led all scorers with 22 points for the Warriors while Ian Larkin came off the bench for 16 points and nine boards. Jerry Oden chipped in 16 on 7-for-11 shooting.

The home team hit the first bucket of the game, but Spahr connected on a pair of buckets to give Tiffin the 4-2 lead just 1:28 into the contest. Both teams battled to an 11-11 tie before an old-fashioned three pointer by Spahr gave Tiffin a three-point lead with 15:32 left in the first half. However, Wayne State ripped off 11 unanswered to take an eight-point lead, an advantage it never relinquished. Ian Larkin cut the deficit to one and back-to-back layups by Oden put Wayne State in the lead. Hollingsworth added a fastbreak layup, split a pair from the line and an Ike Udanoh layup ended the run. Seniors Rafael Cuellar and Brian Scott recorded layups around a bucket by WSU's Larkin, but Tiffin never trailed by less than six the rest of the way. Wayne State took a 14-point lead into the break and won 102-72.

Tiffin returns to action Saturday when it travels to Northwood (Mich.) at 1 p.m. Game time is 1 p.m.
