Playing shorthanded due to illness forced Tiffin University's women's basketball team to move some personnel around for its road trip to Ashland Thursday night. Things didn't work out as hoped, as a season-worst 22 turnovers coupled with 26 percent field goal shooting led to a disappointing 73-41 loss to the Eagles.

Four minutes into the game, the Eagles started to take advantage, going on a huge 24-5 run over a 10 minute span that put the Eagles up 19 points with 7 minutes left in the half.

The Dragons, second in the nation in least turnovers committed per game, allowed Ashland to score 16 points in the first half alone off turnovers. They were also outscored 16-4 off the bench.

The Dragons managed to cut the deficit to 10 points early in the second half, but it didn't last long, as the Eagles regrouped and expanded their lead. Tiffin managed only 26 percent from the field and were outscored at the free throw line 20-5. Ashland outrebounded TU 44-33.

Mandy Jaeb and Karli Mast tied for the lead with 8 points apiece while Amanda Baute had 7 points but also fouled out after 20 minutes. Holly Focke led the team with 8 rebounds.

Tiffin now returns home to take on Lake Erie in another GLIAC matchup at 3 pm on Jan. 15.
