Dragons fail to hold two late leads in doubleheader loss

Tiffin University (3-15) held late leads in both games at Saginaw Valley State but could not get wins in either game, falling in the opener 10-9 in 8 innings and losing the nightcap 7-4. In the opener, TU trailed 7-2 but roared back to take a 9-7 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning. A two-run single with two outs and two strikes gave the Cardinals the victory. Jordan Liette took the loss in relief, allowing 2 unearned runs over 2 innings of work in relief of Donnie Smith, who tossed 5.2 innings and allowed 6 earned runs. Jason Bailey drilled a 3-run home run while Ty Blake had 3 hits. Jason Kulp had 2 hits with a double for 3 RBI, while Colin Lowe had 2 hits with a double and Pat Curtin added 2 hits.

In the nightcap, TU held a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning but watched as the Cardinals rallied for 6 runs in the inning. The bullpen failed to come through in relief of Kyle Blackford, who pitched 4.1 innings and allowed just 5 hits and one earned run. TU's Brock Mitchell took the loss, as he was one of three relief pitchers that allowed 6 earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Kulp, Lowe, and Curtin all had 2 hits while Jordan Chiero also had 2 RBI and Blake added a double.
