Tiffin University's women's basketball team shot just 26 percent in the second half while allowing Wayne State to post a 61 percent second-half field goal percentage, as the Warriors handed TU a 65-48 loss. The loss drops the Dragons to 6-4 overall, 2-3 in the GLIAC. Wayne State improves to 3-7, 3-2.
Tiffin held the Warriors to 34 percent shooting in the first half, which ended with TU up 29-26. But the Dragons shot just 40 percent in the half and was unable to amass a sizable lead before the break.
After the intermission, it was a totally different story, as the Warriors outscored TU 39-19 and dominated the final 20 minutes. The Dragons never got on track from the floor, hitting just 2 for 16 from three point land and getting outrebounded 41-31. Tiffin forced 18 turnovers but also turned the ball over themselves 15 times.
After jumping out to a 31-26 lead one minute into the second half, the Dragons allowed Wayne State to go on a 19-6 run over the next 7 minutes as the Warriors went ahead by 8 points. Tiffin closed the gap to 5 points at the 11:27 mark, but Wayne State responded with another 17-7 run to effectively put the Dragons down 15 points with 4:30 to go.
The Dragons especially suffered off the bench, as Wayne State held a huge 29-9 advantage in bench scoring.
Jessica Harris led the Dragons with 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Karli Mast was the only other Dragon in double figures with 12 points (on 4 for 13 shooting), including Tiffin's only two treys. Mandy Jaeb scored 7 points but shot 3 for 12, while Holly Focke had 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Tiffin now takes a break over the holidays and will not play again until they travel to Salem International on Dec. 30 for a 6 pm game.
