AMHERST, N.Y. - The Tiffin University women's soccer team ended their two-game New York trip with a 2-1 win on Sunday morning over Daemen (N.Y.) to finish non-conference play.
Both offenses came out firing as each team scored once in the first seven minutes. The Wildcats struck first in the fifth minute, but the Dragons quickly responded 2:42 later to tie the game at one when Maddie Davis dished it to Callie Cacchione for the game-tying goal in the seventh minute.
The game remained tied at one going into halftime despite the Dragons holding a 10-4 shot advantage.
7:22 into the second half, in the 53rd minute, Sam McPhee took a pass from Dani Garner and Amanda Feury and ripped a shot from the top of the box over the goalkeeper's head to put Tiffin on top 2-1 in what would ultimately be the game-winning goal. Goalkeeper Gianna Parmentier made two saves in the second half to preserve the lead.
Overall, TU held a 19-12 shot advantage over the Wildcats and recorded more shots on goal (7-5).
Parmentier went the distance in goal and made four saves.
Tiffin returns home for their next contest as G-MAC play opens against nationally ranked Ashland on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.
