Men’s Golf Sits Ninth After Opening Day at Midwest Collegiate

PERU, Ind. – The Tiffin University men's golf team returned to competition on Monday at the Midwest Collegiate, hosted by the University of Missouri-St. Louis Club in Peru, Indiana. The Dragons opened the event with a 9 a.m. (ET) shotgun start and completed the first 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament, sitting ninth in the team standings heading into Tuesday's final round.

Tiffin posted rounds of 301 and 287 for a two-round total of 588 through the opening day of play. The Dragons will look to climb the leaderboard during Tuesday's final 18 holes as they were one of four teams to go under par during the second round.

Tiffin was led in the opening round by Winston Brown and Daniel Aitken, who each carded -1 par 71s. Brown turned in one of the steadiest rounds of the day, tallying 17 pars and a lone birdie on the par-4 fifth hole. Aitken also got off to a fast start with a birdie on his opening hole and finished strong, sinking birdie putts on two of his final four holes to close the round at one under. Playing as an individual, Grant Woodruff turned in an even-par 72 in his opening round. Woodruff got off to a strong start by birdieing the par-4 18th hole and maintained steady play throughout the remainder of the round to finish level with par.

The Dragons continued to gain momentum during Monday's second round as Max Vanoy fired a one-under-par 71, highlighted by five birdies. Mathew Dealey matched Vanoy's score of 71, recording three birdies on the afternoon, including a pair on the back nine. Vanoy enters Tuesday's final round tied for 41st overall, while Daniel Aitken remains in contention near the top of the leaderboard.

Despite a challenging front nine in the second round, Aitken battled back to post a 73 and sits tied for 16th heading into the tournament's final 18 holes. Liam Harvey helped round out the Dragons' scoring effort in the second round, turning in an even-par 72. Harvey carded a one-under 35 on the front nine and added another birdie on the back stretch of the course.

Maryville and Grand Valley State are tied atop the team standings at 567 (-9) through the first two rounds. Action resumes on Tuesday with the final 18 holes to be played.
