TIFFIN, Ohio – The Tiffin University women's soccer team battled all game long and overcame late adversity to earn a 1-1 result against Northwood on Saturday afternoon at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.
Northwood (4-5-1, 3-2-1 G-MAC) opened the scoring in the 18th minute when an in-swinging corner kick from Ella Boyd deflected off the Tiffin defense and into the net for an own goal. Three minutes prior, the Dragons nearly struck first as Taylor Iden's header deflected off the crossbar.
Tiffin (3-5-2, 1-4-1 G-MAC) responded in the 26th minute. Mikayla Tolbert found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, finishing an assist from Amanda Feury to level the score at 1–1.
The match grew increasingly physical in the second half. TU was forced to play a woman down for the final 20 minutes after starting goalkeeper Gianna Parmentier was issued a red card in the 70th minute. Backup goalkeeper Sam McPhee, making her first appearance in goal this season, stepped in and stopped both shots she faced to preserve the tie. The Timberwolves tested the shorthanded Dragons late with looks from Jenna D'Alimonte and Chloe Wishart, but McPhee and the Tiffin backline held firm.
Maddie Davis nearly gave the Dragons the lead in the 81st minute, but her shot attempt sailed just a few inches high over the crossbar.
Tiffin outshot Northwood 11-9 and held a slight 4-3 advantage in shots on goal while Northwood recorded six corner kick chances to Tiffin's two.
Parmentier made one save in 69:13 minutes before being sent off, and McPhee recorded two saves stepping in for Parmentier for the final 20:47.
The Dragons are set to begin October on the 1st with a second consecutive game against Northwood which is set for 4 p.m. in Midland, Mich at Dean Soccer Field.
