TIFFIN, Ohio – The Tiffin University men's soccer team opened Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play with a dominating 3-0 win over Ashland on Thursday afternoon at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.
Following a few substitutions by the Dragons, Tiffin took the lead late in the first half in the 40th minute to make it 1-0. Off a corner kick, Tiffin maintained control of the ball and Yaw Turkson crossed it into the box to Stephen Owusu who deflected the ball up into the air towards Aymeric Letang who came flying in for the header to make it 1-0. Tiffin led 1-0 at the halftime break.
The Dragons padded their lead in the 61st minute when Turkson drew a foul in the box to earn a penalty kick which was converted by Garbhan Feeney to make it 2-0.
The Dragons added a third goal shortly after by converting on a breakaway opportunity. Noe Misumi started the breakaway by passing it up to Feeney who then dished it to Callum Ellington, and Ellington put the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0 in the 70th minute.
Owusu nearly made it 4-0 in the 84th minute, but his shot deflected off the right post.
Nick Cherry went the distance in goal and made one save.
Tiffin held a 16-6 advantage in shots and edged the Eagles in corners, 7-6. Tiffin's defense limited the Eagles to two shot attempts in the second half and just one shot on goal for the game which came in the first half.
Tiffin's homestand continues with a 1 p.m. matchup against Malone on Saturday at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.
