Tiffin University (19-9, 9-1 G-MAC) used strong pitching to post a doubleheader sweep of Malone, winning 2-1 and 7-0.
Tiffin, which has won 12 of its last 13 games, was led in game two by
Lexi Key. Key tossed a one-hitter over 7 innings with 7 strikeouts.
Ella Esterby got the win in game one, allowing just 2 hits and one earned run with 11 strikeouts.
In game one, TU trailed 1-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth.
McKenna Scott singled and
Tori McPherson doubles to put runners at second and third with nobody out.
Jessica Miller then singled to tie the game, and a wild pitch allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate.
In the seventh, Malone got a runner in scoring position but Esterby fanned the final two hitters to preserve the win.
In game two, Tiffin struck in the first inning. Scott reached on an error at second base and then moved to second on a wild pitch. A Miller triple made it 1-0, TU.
In the second,
Reagan Mengerink blasted a home run to center field to make it 2-0.
TU totaled 5 runs in the fifth.
Jadyn Bassi and Scott singled, setting up a big blast from McPherson to drive in three runs. Miller then singled. With two outs, Miller scored on
Tara Gall's single, and singles by Molly Koester and Mengerink drove in the final run of the game.
Tiffin had 11 hits in the second game, with Miller getting 3 and Mengerink and Scott getting 2 hits apiece.
