The Tiffin University baseball team (15-30, 10-17 G-MAC) could not get much going on offense and suffered two losses to Hillsdale on Saturday, falling 7-2 in game one and 5-0 in game two.
Game 1:
Hillsdale blew the game open scoring five in the third inning off TU starter Trent Hedges to take a 6-0 lead.
Tiffin's only two runs of the game came in the second when Dylan Ruhe scored on an RBI triple by Griff Cady and Cady would then score on a dropped fly by the Hillsdale left fielder. The Dragons got two runners on in the sixth but couldn't push any runs across.
Hedges (1-3) took the loss and went 2.2 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with one walk. Hedges, who is known for striking out opposing hitters, did not record a strikeout. Jeffery Oister pitched the final 3.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
Cady went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate.
Game 2:
Tiffin was shutout for the third time this season. Hillsdale plated three in the third and two in the fourth.
The Dragons had two runners on base in both the third and fifth innings but couldn't convert.
The top two hitters in the lineup, Dylan Ruhe and Gavin Marceric, combined to go 5 for 7 while the rest of the lineup went 0 for 17. Brock Polilli, Brayden Clark, and Jayden Leach each walked once.
Johnathon Ray (3-7) started and took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Nick Hayes pitched 2.0 scoreless innings and struck out two.
