Tiffin University (29-11) posted a sweep of Wayne State, winning 7-1 before also getting a 5-1 win in a rain-shortened 5-inning contest.
In the opener,
Ella Esterby improved to 14-7 with a 4-hit effort. She allowed one earned run over 7 innings with 4 strikeouts.
Tiffin struck first in the first inning.
McKenna Scott doubled and then scored on a
Jessica Miller single.
Tiffin blew the game open with a huge 5th inning. After
Tori McPherson and Miller were hit by pitches,
Molly Koesters slammed a two-out, three-run home run to center field to break a 1-1 tie. After
Marina Koenig walked,
Reagan Mengerink added to the lead with another two-run shot to push Tiffin's lead to 6-1.
Tiffin added another run in the sixth. Another Scott double was followed by a Miller walk and a
Tara Gall hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Scott came in to score on a dropped sacrifice fly to short center field.
In game two,
Lexi Key improved to 15-4 with 5 innings of 5-hit pitching. She fanned 6 with no walks.
Trailing 1-0 in the first, Tiffin got two runs to take the lead. McPherson and Miller singled and then scored on a
Macy Brazelton single to left center followed by an error by the catcher.
In the fourth, Gall singled. Pinch runner
Tori Abel then stole second and came home on Brazelton's single. Walks to Koesters and
Jadyn Bassi loaded the bases. Pinch runner
Lydia Kobie then scored on a sac fly by Koenig.
In the fifth, McPherson doubled and then scored on Gall's single for Tiffin's final run.
