Tiffin University (26-10, 16-2 G-MAC) kept itself in first place with a doubleheader shutout of Ursuline 5-0 and 16-0 in 5 innings.
Ella Esterby got the mound win in game one, allowing just 3 hits over 7 innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks. She also helped herself by going 3 for 3 at the plate with a home run.
Tiffin did all of its damage in the final two innings. In the sixth with two outs,
McKenna Scott reached on an error.
Tori McPherson then tripled to drive her home. After
Jessica Miller was hit by a pitch,
Tara Gall singled to drive in two runs and make it 3-0, Dragons.
In the seventh, Esterby blasted a leadoff home run. A walk to
Jadyn Bassi and a single to
Macy Brazelton put runners on first and third. Scott then reached on a fielder's choice, plating another run.Â
In game two,
Lexi Key also put on a clinic, allowing just two hits over 5 innings with 5 strikeouts and no walks.
Key got plenty of support at the plate as the Dragons pounded out 20 hits and scored in the first four innings.
In the first, McPherson doubled and scored on Miller's subsequent single. Gall then doubled for another RBI. With two outs, Esterby doubled for another run and
Reagan Mengerink singled for another RBI to make it 4-0.
In the second, a Scott single and an error put two on for Gall, who doubled for two more runs.
In the third, a Bassi single and a
Gwen McMenemy walk set up McPherson, who laced a two-out double for an RBI. Miller then singled to drive in two more runs and push TU's lead to 9-0.
Tiffin had its biggest explosion in the fourth with 7 runs.
Tori Abel and
Marina Koenig singled, setting the stage for Brazelton to drill a three-run home run. An error and singles by McMenemy and
Tabetha Thomas loaded the bases. McPherson then smacked another double for two runs.
Ryan Wallace brought another run home with a sacrifice fly, and Koenig singled to drive in McPherson for Tiffin's final run.
