Dragons drop tough conference game 12-10 to Point Park

Tiffin University (4-8, 2-6 G-MAC) dropped a tough conference game against Point Park, falling in the closing minutes 12-10.

Tiffin got off to a slow start as the Pioneers jumped out to a 6-1 lead and controlled most of the first quarter. 

The Dragons started to claw back into the game by holding Point Park to just one goal in the second quarter. Goals by Nate Pearson and Cole Mack made the score 7-4, Point Park at halftime.

Tiffin made its biggest push in the third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 5-3 and holding a 15-7 shot edge to creep to within 10-9 by the end of the quarter. Jack Howard tallied two of those goals while Mack, Aaron Cotter and Cole Back also scored.

Tiffin tied the score 10-10 with 10:11 to play on another Mack goal but Tiffin's 5 shots over the remaining time could not get past the goalkeeper. Point Park took the lead with a goal with 5:39 to play and then got an insurance goal with 1:12 left to seal the win.

The Dragons held a strong shot advantage 49-35 over the Pioneers but only 24 of those shots were on goal. Point Park led the on-goal percentage with a healthy 25 shots on goal out of 35 taken.

Tiffin held a narrow 47-45 ground ball edge and won the faceoffs 15-9.

Mack finished with 4 goals and an assist along with 4 ground balls while Howard had 3 goals and 4 ground balls. Also getting goals were Cotter, Pearson, and Back. Cotter, Connor Gucwa, Noah Cruz, and Mack also had assists.

Nick Overocker had 7 ground balls and 11 faceoff wins while Grant Pryor had 5 ground balls. Other ground ball leaders were Jack Birch (4 along with 4 caused turnovers), Cotter (4), Howard (4), Mack (4), Tyler Nutting (3), Brady Sortor (3), and Back (3). 

Nutting took the loss in goal, making 13 saves over 59:38. Adam Goucher also played in goal.
