Tiffin University baseball (4-10) defeated Thomas More 9-4 on Sunday afternoon to win the three-game weekend non-conference series.
Dominic Elia provided a strong presence on the mound, shutting down the TMU offense. Elia got the win and moved to 2-0 on the year throwing 6.2 innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing three runs (one earned).
For the second straight game, the Dragons scored in each of the first two innings. In the first, Dylan Ruhe led off with a single and scored on a two-out RBI double by Adam Deitschel. In the second, Brayden Clark scored on an RBI double by Jayden Leach and Leach scored on an RBI groundout by Luke Westerman.
TU blew the game open in the third as Clark hit a two-out, three-run home run to make it 6-0, but the Saints also plated three in the third and scored all three with two outs. A two-out error led to two unearned runs for the Saints.
After three scoreless innings, Tiffin plated three more in the seventh to make it 9-3. Jovanny Skrelja drove in two with a double and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Deitschel.
Brett Madison and Brock Polilli closed out the game on the mound. Madison struck out three in 1.1 innings of work while Polilli worked the ninth inning and allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout.
Deitschel and Clark each recorded two hits while Ruhe and Clark scored two runs.
