Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Slow start costs Dragons against Wildcats

Tiffin University women's lacrosse (2-3) could not overcome an early five-goal deficit and fell 21-15 to Daemen (N.Y) on Saturday afternoon at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats came ready to play and blitzed the Dragons early, scoring four goals in the first 45 seconds. Despite the early momentum by the visitors, the Dragons settled in and a goal by Lillian Graham made it a 6-5 game after the first period.

32 seconds into the second quarter, Dana Shehadeh found Graham which tied the game. After a seven-minute scoreless stretch by both teams, the Wildcats took back control of the game scoring four in a row and led 11-8 at the half.

The Dragons still were unable to cut into the deficit in the third quarter as the teams traded goals. With 2:24 left in the third, Kenna Wigginton scored a woman up goal to make it 16-13, but the TU defense had no answer for the Wildcats' offense. Daemen scored twice in the final two minutes of the quarter despite being down a player and led 18-13 going into the fourth.

Both offenses slowed down in the fourth with Daemen outscoring the Dragons 3-2.

Graham led the offense scoring six goals while Wigginton scored three and added an assist. Isabelle Vranjes and Katelyn Jarvis each scored two goals and Jarvis had two assists. Shehadeh and Lauren Walsh scored one goal and both recorded two assists. Ashley Spangler assisted on the Dragons' final goal of the game.

Wigginton led the way with five ground balls while Aryanna Rykard and Delaney Christensen had two caused turnovers. Jarvis also eclipsed 100 career points in the game.

Sarah Hart took the loss in goal making two saves while allowing 10 goals. Paige Waldrup made her season debut at goalkeeper and made five saves while allowing 11 goals in 33 minutes of action.

The Dragons held a 37-31 shot advantage and won the ground ball battle 27-22. Both teams won 19 draw controls.
