Tiffin University baseball (3-10) plated four in the first inning and rolled to a 9-1 victory over Thomas More Saturday night to even the series.
The Dragons used extra base hits to put a crooked number up in the first inning. Gavin Marceric led off with a triple and scored on an RBI double by Jovanny Skrelja and Michael Patellis homered for the second day in a row to make it 3-0. The fourth run came with two outs as Jayden Leach raced home on an RBI double by Cameron Jantz.
TU starter Brandon Swope had to work out of bases loaded jams in both the first and second innings but worked out of it both times. The Dragons added one more in the third and three in the fourth to blow the game open. Patellis scored on a sacrifice fly by Leach in the third while Skrelja provided a two-run home run in the fourth and Adam Deitschel provided a two-out RBI single. Tiffin's ninth and final run came in the sixth as Skrelja scored on an RBI infield single by Leach.
Five TU pitchers held the Saints to just one run on six hits. Swope went 4.0 innings and allowed four hits with four walks while striking out two. Ryan Birch got the win in relief throwing 2.2 innings with two strikeouts while giving up just one hit.
Keegan Phillips and Patrick Dinnen each pitched 1.0 scoreless innings, and Phillips struck out two in his season debut.
Four Dragons had multi-hit games. Skrelja went 2 for 4 with 2 walks, 3 RBI, and scored 3 runs. Patellis was 5 for 6 with 2 RBI and scored 3 runs. Deitschel went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and Dylan Ruhe was 2 for 5.
