Tiffin University baseball (2-10) opened their three-game non-conference series at Thomas More Friday night, falling 7-4.
A promising start quickly went awry for the Dragons. Brayden Clark belted a two-run home run in the first to put TU up 2-0 but the Saints scored three in the first two innings to make it 6-2. The back-breaking hit was a two-out, bases clearing double in the bottom of the second which forced starter Trent Hedges out of the game.
TMU added one more in the third and another two-run home run, this time by Michael Patellis, making it 7-4 in the fourth.
Johnathon Ray was magnificent in relief, striking out eight in 5.0 innings but the TU offense was held in check despite having at least one base runner reach in every inning except for the second and eighth.
Hedges took the loss and moved to 0-1 after going just 1.2 innings while allowing six runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Austin Guerra pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits.
Jovanny Skrelja went 4 for 5 at the plate and scored a run to lead the offense.
