Tiffin University baseball (9-14, 4-4 G-MAC) bounced back Sunday, taking both games to earn a four-game series split with Ohio Dominican.
The Dragons won game one 4-0 behind Trent Hedges' strong performance on the mound while multiple home runs powered the Dragons to a 9-7 victory in game two.
Game 1:
Ryan Birch and Hedges combined for the shutout. Birch started and threw 1.0 innings with one strikeout. Hedges got the win and threw the final 6.0 innings and allowed two hits while striking out seven.
Tiffin struck for their first run with two outs in the third inning. Marceric reached on an infield single and came around to score on an RBI double by Griff Cady. TU tacked on two more in the fourth on a two-run home run by Michael Patellis and added their fourth and final run in the sixth as Brayden Clark scored on an RBI double by Jovanny Skrelja.
Peyton Ganda recorded his first career start behind the dish. Marceric went 2 for 3 at the plate and scored a run.
Game 2:
Trailing 4-1 in the fourth, Marceric tied the game with a three-run blast and Griff Cady followed with a solo shot to make it 5-4 as the Dragons went back-to-back on back-to-back pitches. With two outs, Clark delivered a two-run homer to make it 7-4.
ODU came back to tie the game in the fifth and the game-tying run came via an error by Marceric. TU responded to retake the lead again in the sixth as Patellis singled home Dylan Ruhe. The Dragons got a big insurance run in the seventh when Adam Deitschel delivered a two-out infield bunt single.
At the start of the bottom of the seventh, lightning forced the game to be delayed but it did not affect the Dragons as the TU arms held ODU scoreless after the delay for the final three innings.
Johnathon Ray started and got the win, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Luke Mager provided 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, and Brock Polilli closed it out in the ninth striking out the side to earn his third save of the season.
