Game Recap: Baseball |

Miscues cost Dragons two games at Ohio Dominican

Tiffin University baseball (7-14, 2-4 G-MAC) was swept in a doubleheader on Saturday at Ohio Dominican, falling 9-7 in game one and 12-4 in game two. The Dragons did not play fundamental baseball, committing five total errors across the two games while the pitching allowed 21 runs on 20 hits.

Game 1:

The Dragons were in prime position to open the series with a win, but the Panthers plated three off reliever Patrick Dinnen in the eighth inning to steal game one 9-7 and Tiffin was unsuccessful in mounting a rally in the ninth.

Tied at five in the seventh, Dylan Ruhe gave the Dragons a 7-5 lead with a two-run home run which at the time was a momentum-swinging hit, but the Panthers plated one in the seventh to steal some of that momentum back which carried over into the eighth.

After falling behind 3-0, Tiffin scored five unanswered to lead 5-3 in the sixth but couldn't hold on to the lead as ODU came back and tied it in the sixth with a two-run homer off TU reliever Brett Madison

Dinnen moved to 0-2 on the year with the loss and gave up three runs on four hits with one strikeout. Starter Brandon Swope threw 5.0 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits with six walks and seven strikeouts.

Brayden Clark and Julian Hernandez both recorded three-hit games, and Ruhe had three RBI.

Game 2:

The Dragons played from behind all game as the Panthers plated two in the first. Trailing 4-1 in the fourth, TU rallied to tie the game. Clark led off with a walk and scored on a double by Gavin MarcericMichael Patellis scored on an infield hit by Julian Hernandez, and Ruhe drew a bases loaded walk which allowed Marceric to score to tie it.

The game unraveled and got away from the Dragons while the Panthers batted in the same inning. ODU scored six runs on four hits and took advantage of two TU errors to blow it open and scored two more in the fifth.

The deficit caused the Dragons to empty their bench and Dane Blackstone and Jagger Dohn made their collegiate debuts. Peyton Ganda also recorded his first career hit.

Dominic Elia started and took the loss throwing 3.0 innings while allowing nine runs (six earned) on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts. For the second straight game, Elia struggled out of the gate and allowed the opponent to get off to a hot start.

Austin Guerra was the only pitcher to not allow a run and pitched 0.2 scoreless innings.

Patellis went 2 for 2 at the plate and Griff Cady drew two walks.
