Tiffin University (10-8) took advantage of a blustery day at Paradiso Fields, belting six homers in a doubleheader sweep of Davenport. Tiffin won the opener 7-2 and the nightcap 8-4.
In game one, Tiffin scored in all but one inning.
Jessica Miller drilled two home runs while
Reagan Mengerink and
Jadyn Bassi also clubbed home runs.
Lexi Key got the pitching win, allowing just 2 hits over 7 innings while fanning 12 and walking just one. She allowed one earned run.
In the first,
McKenna Scott led off with a triple. An error on a ball hit by
Tori McPherson allowed her to score the game's first run.
In the second, Bassi slammed a home run to center field, while Miller hit another homer to center to lead off the third inning. Two batters later, Mengerink joined the home run club with a blast to left field to make it 3-0, Tiffin.
In the fifth,
Ella Esterby reached on an error. She came home on Mengerink's single. Pinch runner
Tori Abel stole second and moved to third after walks to
Lydia Kobie and Bassi. She then scored on
Marina Koenig's sacrifice fly.
Tiffin's final run came in the sixth when Miller clubbed another home run.
In game two, Esterby got the win, allowing 8 hits and 4 earned runs over 7 innings.Â
Tiffin got two runs in the first. After singles by Scott and McPherson, an error at third base on a ball hit by Esterby brought both runs in.
In the third, a walk by Esterby was followed by a two-run blast from Mengerink.
In the fourth, with
Ryan Wallace on base, a McPherson double brought another run home.
Tiffin got three runs in the sixth.
Jadyn Bassi doubled and Scott walked. With two outs, Miller smashed another home run to center field to finish the scoring.
