Dragons drop twinbill to 22nd-ranked Indianapolis in spring opener

Tiffin University (0-2) opened against 22nd-ranked Indianapolis, falling 2-1 in 9 innings in the opener and 9-4 in the nightcap.

The two teams locked up in a pitcher's duel in game one, with Ella Esterby pitching 8.2 innings and allowing just 5 hits and one earned run in a tough loss.

Neither team scored a run until the top of the 8th inning when TU got on the board. With Reagan Mengerink placed on second, Jessica Miller doubled to drive her home and give TU a 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds responded in the bottom of the inning to tie the game and send it to the 9th. UIndy won the game when a sacrifice fly brought in a runner from third base.

Tiffin managed a total of 3 singles in the game with Miller getting the lone extra base hit with a double.

Tiffin gave up 6 runs in the first three innings in game two, as starter Lexi Key was tagged for 7 earned runs over her 3.2 innings of work. Esterby relieved and gave up no runs over 3 innings.

Tiffin managed to get 3 runs in the bottom of the second inning. McKenna Scott singled while Ryan Wallace also singled and Marina Koenig walked to load the bases. A passed ball and a misplayed swinging strikeout allowed three unearned runs to score.

Tiffin picked up another unearned run in the fourth. Tori Abel reached on an error, moved to third on Jadyn Bassi's single, and then scored on a groundout to shortstop.

Tiffin again mustered 3 hits in the game, all singles.
