Game Recap: Baseball |

Dragons start the weekend with two losses to Gannon

Tiffin University baseball (0-9) opened their four-game weekend series with Gannon on Friday, and lost both, falling 4-3 in game one and 7-2 in game two.

Game 1:

Gannon got two big home runs, including an insurance two-run blast in the sixth inning to make it 4-0. Those two runs proved costly.

Trailing 4-0 in the seventh down to their last at bat, the Dragons plated three but couldn't push across anymore. Gavin Marceric and Julian Hernandez led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Marceric scored on a Jovanny Skrelja RBI double, Hernandez scored on an RBI groundout by Brayden Clark, and Skrelja scored on an RBI single by Michael Patellis. Down to their last out with tying run on first, Adam Deitschel struck out looking to end the seven-inning game.

The Dragons had at least one base runner in every inning but couldn't plate any until the final inning.

Brandon Swope (0-1) took the loss and went the distance, throwing 6.0 innings allowing four runs on three hits with six walks and one strikeout. Two of the six walks crossed home plate.

Eight of the nine TU batters recorded one hit each.

Game 2:

The Dragons fell behind early and couldn't recover as Gannon scored five runs in the first three innings off TU starter Johnathan Ray.

Gannon's starting pitcher shut down TU's offense and held the Dragons scoreless for 5.2 innings. A two-out single in the sixth inning by Clark gave the Dragons their first hit of the game.

Luke Westerman scored on an RBI double by Marceric to give Tiffin their first run of the game. In the eighth, Clark scored on an RBI single by Deitschel.

Gannon scored twice in the seventh, and TU was retired in order in their final plate appearance of the game.

Ray (0-3) threw 3.0 innings and allowed five runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Billy Skripac threw 2.1 scoreless innings and Ethan Acurio threw 1.0 scoreless innings in his collegiate debut.

Clark led the offense going 2 for 4 at the plate while scoring a run.
