Tiffin University (3-3) picked up a pair of victories at the Lincoln Memorial tourney, defeating Bluefield State 8-0 in five innings and Lincoln Memorial 6-3.
In the first game,
Ella Esterby dominated the hitters, fanning 10 in 5 innings while allowing just 4 hits in the shutout.
Tiffin scored in all but the second inning. In the first,
McKenna Scott tripled and
Tori McPherson walked.
Reagan Mengerink then doubled for two runs, while
Molly Koesters followed with a triple to make it 3-0, Tiffin.
In the third, McPherson walked and came home on Koesters's double.
Jadyn Bassi then walked, and she and pinch runner
Marina Koenig both advanced on a wild pitch. Koenig then scored on an error by the catcher. After Bassi stole third, she scored on
Ryan Wallace's sacrifice fly.
Tiffin picked up another run in the fourth. With two outs,
Jessica Miller and McPherson singled, and Miller scored on Mengerink's single to make it 7-0.
TU finished the game off with a run in the fifth. Bassi walked, and pinch runner
Tori Abel advanced to second on Wallace's single. TU ended the game when
Natalie Neumeier had a pinch hit single to drive Abel home.
In game two,
Lexi Key got the win with 4.1 innings of work. She allowed 6 hits and 2 runs, while Esterby came out for the final 2.2 innings for the save. She fanned 5 over that stretch while allowing just 2 hits.
Tiffin did all its damage in the second and sixth innings. In the second, Neumeier walked. With two outs, pinch runner Abel moved to third on Scott's double. Miller then blasted a three-run home run to put TU up 3-0.
Ahead 3-2, TU struck again in the sixth. Wallace doubled to lead off the inning. Again with two outs,
Gwen McMenemy singled for an RBI. A single by Scott was followed by a double steal, and Miller drove both of them home with another single.
Esterby finished the game off in the sixth. With the tying run at the plate for LMU, Esterby got a groundout to second base to end the game.
