TIFFIN, Ohio – The Tiffin University volleyball team continued its strong play on Saturday afternoon, defeating Hillsdale College 3-1 inside the Gillmor Student Center. The Dragons claimed the opening two sets 25-23 and 25-22 before the Chargers answered with a 25-12 third-set win. Tiffin regrouped and outlasted Hillsdale in a tightly contested fourth set, earning a 29-27 victory to secure its second consecutive win.
The Dragons were led offensively by
Katelyn Owens, who totaled a match-high 15 kills while hitting .290 and adding three blocks, including two solo efforts.
Amber Czerniak chipped in 14 kills, while
Parker Vackert and
Symari Scott added 11 and nine kills, respectively. Setter
Maggie Pavlansky directed the offense with 31 assists, while
Kat Akolzin contributed 19 assists in the balanced attack.
Defensively, libero
Morgan Morley anchored the back row with a team-high 28 digs while also recording three assists. Morley's final dig of the third set marked the 600th dig of her collegiate career.
Lexi Barber added 21 digs, while Pavlansky finished with eight digs.
Tiffin fought through a competitive opening set featuring eight ties and three lead changes before pulling away late for a 25-23 win. The Dragons then used a balanced attack and a .250 hitting percentage to take the second set 25-22 and build a two-set advantage. Hillsdale responded by hitting .433 in the third frame to extend the match, but Tiffin answered in a dramatic fourth set that featured 15 ties. Owens delivered several key late points, and the Dragons closed out the match on a kill from Owens to secure the 29-27 victory.
The Dragons will look to continue rolling when they return to action on Friday, October 9 in a road G-MAC contest at Lake Erie College in Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center at 6 p.m.
